Chapters 1–6

Stories of faithfulness under pagan kings — the fiery furnace, the writing on the wall, the lions’ den.

Chapter 1 (605 BC): Daniel and his friends resolve not to defile themselves with the king’s food, and God gives them wisdom and favor.
Chapter 2 (603 BC): Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a great statue, which Daniel interprets: God’s kingdom is the stone that fills the earth.
Chapter 3 (c. 590 BC): Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow to the golden image and are delivered from the fiery furnace.
Chapter 4 (c. 570 BC): Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a felled tree; his humbling and restoration lead him to praise God’s sovereignty.
Chapter 5 (539 BC): The writing on the wall at Belshazzar’s feast, and Babylon falls to the Medes and Persians that night.
Chapter 6 (c. 538 BC): Daniel, faithful in prayer, is delivered from the den of lions.

Chapters 7–12

Daniel’s night visions of beasts, the Son of Man, and the end, assuring God’s final triumph.

Chapter 7 (c. 553 BC): The vision of four beasts and “one like a son of man” who receives an everlasting kingdom.
Chapter 8 (c. 551 BC): The vision of the ram and the goat, foretelling Persia, Greece, and a coming persecuting king.
Chapter 9 (539 BC): Daniel’s prayer of confession and the prophecy of the seventy weeks concerning the Anointed One.
Chapter 10 (c. 536 BC): A vision of a glorious man, and Daniel strengthened by an angel amid unseen spiritual conflict.
Chapter 11 (c. 536 BC): A detailed prophecy of the wars of coming kings of the north and south.
Chapter 12 (c. 536 BC): The time of the end, the resurrection of the dead, and the promise of everlasting life.
