Daniel sees a ram (Media-Persia) overpowered by a swift male goat (Greece), whose great horn is broken and replaced by four, out of one of which rises a fierce “little horn” that magnifies itself, halts the temple sacrifices, and persecutes the holy people. Gabriel interprets the vision as pointing to the latter days and a bold, deceitful king who will be broken “by no human hand,” and Daniel is left appalled.
