Taken to Babylon and enrolled in the king’s training, Daniel and his three friends resolve not to defile themselves with the king’s rich food and wine, asking instead for vegetables and water. God honors their conviction: after ten days they appear healthier than the rest, and He grants the four young men learning, skill, and wisdom, with Daniel gifted to understand visions and dreams, so that they excel above all the king’s advisers.
