Chapters 1–3

Our Riches in Christ

Paul unfolds God’s eternal plan of salvation — chosen, redeemed, sealed, made alive, and raised with Christ by sheer grace — and the mystery now revealed, that Jew and Gentile are united into one new people, God’s household and holy temple.

  • Chapter 1 (c. AD 62): Paul praises God for every spiritual blessing in Christ and prays for the church to know its hope and inheritance.
  • Chapter 2 (c. AD 62): Once dead in sin, believers are saved by grace through faith, and Jew and Gentile are made one new humanity in Christ.
  • Chapter 3 (c. AD 62): Paul reveals the mystery of the church, prays for their strengthening, and doxologizes God’s surpassing power.

Chapters 4–6

Our Walk in Christ

In light of that calling, believers are to walk worthily — preserving the Spirit’s unity, growing into maturity, putting off the old self and putting on the new, walking in love, light, and wisdom, ordering their relationships under Christ, and standing firm in the whole armor of God.

  • Chapter 4 (c. AD 62): Called to walk worthily in unity, believers are gifted for maturity and must put off the old self and put on the new.
  • Chapter 5 (c. AD 62): Walk in love and light as children of God, and order marriage under the picture of Christ and the church.
  • Chapter 6 (c. AD 62): Instructions for children, parents, and servants, and the call to stand firm in the whole armor of God.
