Ephesians 4

The “therefore” turns from doctrine to life: “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,” with humility, gentleness, patience, and love, “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit,” for there is “one body and one Spirit... one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God.” The ascended Christ gave gifts — apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers — “to equip the saints for the work of ministry,” so the body grows to maturity in love. Believers must no longer walk as the Gentiles do but “put off your old self” and “put on the new self, created after the likeness of God,” speaking truth, working, giving, and forgiving.
