Acts 12

c. AD 44Herod kills James and imprisons Peter, who is freed by an angel; Herod is struck down.

Herod Agrippa kills the apostle James and imprisons Peter, intending to execute him. But the praying church sees God act: an angel frees Peter from his chains and guards, and he arrives at the house where they are praying, to their astonishment. Herod, later accepting worship as a god, is struck down by an angel and dies. “But the word of God increased and multiplied.”
