The Spirit sets apart Barnabas and Saul at Antioch for the first missionary journey. On Cyprus they oppose a magician and lead the proconsul to faith. In Pisidian Antioch, Paul (as he is now called) preaches a great sermon showing Jesus as the promised Savior of David’s line, through whom “forgiveness of sins is proclaimed” and by whom everyone who believes is freed. When many Jews reject the message, Paul turns to the eager Gentiles, and the word spreads through the region.
