To provide for them, Ruth goes to glean in the fields and “happens” to come to a field belonging to Boaz, a worthy man and kinsman of Elimelech. Boaz notices her, having heard of her kindness to Naomi, and shows her remarkable favor — inviting her to stay, protecting her from harm, sharing his food, and ordering his men to leave extra grain for her. He blesses her as one who has come to take refuge under the wings of the LORD, and Ruth returns to Naomi with an abundance, learning that Boaz is one of their redeemers.
