The prophet pronounces woe on the greedy who lie awake devising evil, then rise at daybreak to seize the fields and houses of others because they have the power to do so. God will bring disaster on such oppressors. Micah rebukes the people who reject true preaching and prefer prophets who promise them wine and strong drink. Yet the chapter turns, as Micah’s cycles do, to hope: God will surely gather the remnant of Israel like sheep in a fold, with their King going before them.
