Micah 1

Micah opens with the LORD Himself descending in awesome judgment, the mountains melting beneath Him, because of the sins of Samaria and Judah and their idolatry. He announces that Samaria will be laid waste, and then laments that the wound is incurable and “has come to Judah... to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.” In a series of mournful wordplays on the names of towns in his own region, Micah walks through the coming devastation, stripping himself bare and wailing like a jackal over a disaster that reaches the very gate of the capital.
