Jesus tells three parables about being ready for His return. The ten virgins teach vigilance, for only the prepared enter the wedding feast. The talents teach faithful stewardship of what the master entrusts, with reward for the faithful and judgment for the wicked servant. Finally, the sheep and the goats portray the last judgment, when the King separates all nations, welcoming those whose faith showed itself in mercy to “the least of these,” and sending the unmerciful away to eternal punishment.
