Luke 14

At a Sabbath meal in a Pharisee’s house, Jesus heals a man and teaches humility — taking the lowest place — and generosity toward those who cannot repay. In the parable of the great banquet, those first invited make excuses and their places are filled by the poor and outcast brought in from the highways. He then sets out the cost of discipleship: whoever does not renounce all and bear his cross cannot be His disciple, like a builder who counts the cost.
