Job 33

Elihu addresses Job directly and courteously, claiming to speak on God’s behalf without terrifying him. He argues that God does speak to people — through dreams and visions and through the discipline of suffering — to turn them from pride and pluck them back from the pit, and that God graciously provides a “ransom” and a mediating messenger to restore the repentant. His words edge closer to the truth than the friends had come.
