Speaking in Hebrew, Paul recounts his zealous past, his dramatic conversion on the Damascus road, and his commission from the Lord. The crowd listens until he mentions being sent to the Gentiles, at which they erupt in fury. As the soldiers prepare to flog him, Paul reveals that he is a Roman citizen by birth, and the alarmed commander sets him free from his chains and brings him before the Jewish council.
