2 Corinthians 8

Paul commends the collection for the impoverished believers in Jerusalem. He points first to the Macedonian churches, who, out of “extreme poverty,” gave “beyond their means” with abundant joy, first giving themselves to the Lord. He urges the Corinthians to excel in this “act of grace” as they excel in other things, holding up the supreme example: “though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” He commends Titus and the brothers who will oversee the gift, ensuring it is handled honorably.
