The chapter runs through several reigns. In Judah, Abijam walks in his father’s sins, but his son Asa “did what was right,” removing idols and even his idolatrous grandmother, though the high places remain. In Israel, Nadab is assassinated by Baasha, who wipes out Jeroboam’s house as prophesied, only to walk in the same sins himself, so the north’s bloody instability continues.
