1 Kings 16

c. 885 BCA rapid, bloody succession of northern kings ends with Ahab, more evil than all before him.

A dizzying succession of northern kings — Baasha, Elah, the seven-day usurper Zimri, and Omri — reveals a kingdom in turmoil, each dynasty founded and destroyed in violence. Omri builds Samaria as the new capital and does evil, but it is his son Ahab who surpasses them all, marrying Jezebel, serving Baal, and provoking the LORD more than any king before him.
