Responding to their questions, Paul teaches on marriage: husband and wife are to give themselves to one another, and marriage is honorable and a safeguard against immorality. He counsels the unmarried and widows that it is good to remain single as he is, if they can, but better to marry than to burn with passion. Believers married to unbelievers should remain if the spouse consents. Above all, “each one should remain in the condition in which he was called,” serving the Lord with undivided devotion, for “the present form of this world is passing away.”
