In the freshness of spring, the lovers celebrate their belonging to each other — “I am a rose of Sharon,” “his banner over me was love.” The beloved calls the bride to arise and come away, for “the winter is past... the flowers appear on the earth,” and she voices the Song’s great refrain of covenant union, “My beloved is mine, and I am his,” while asking that love not be awakened before its time.
