Paul introduces himself as an apostle set apart for the gospel of God concerning His Son, descended from David and declared Son of God in power by the resurrection. He longs to visit Rome and states his theme: the gospel is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes,” revealing “the righteousness of God.” He then turns to the Gentile world, showing that though God’s power and nature are clearly seen in creation, people suppressed the truth, exchanged the glory of God for idols, and were given up to their sinful desires, so that they are without excuse.
