The fifth trumpet opens the bottomless pit, releasing demonic “locusts” to torment (but not kill) those without God’s seal. The sixth trumpet looses four angels and a vast army that kills a third of mankind. Yet, remarkably, “the rest of mankind... did not repent” of their idolatry, murders, and immorality — showing the hardness of the human heart even under judgment.
