Psalms 42

Korah; lament“As a deer pants for water,” his soul thirsts for God amid downcast sorrow.

A soul cast down and thirsting for God “as a deer pants for flowing streams,” longing for the living God while enemies taunt, “Where is your God?” Twice the psalmist preaches to his own downcast soul: “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
