The humble words of Agur begin with a confession of his own ignorance and the greatness and purity of God, whose every word “proves true.” He offers a memorable prayer for neither poverty nor riches, “lest I be full and deny you... or lest I be poor and steal,” and a series of numerical sayings drawing lessons from ants, locusts, and other wonders of creation.
