Nehemiah 7

With the wall complete, Nehemiah appoints gatekeepers, singers, and Levites, and puts his faithful brother Hanani and the God-fearing Hananiah in charge of the city, ordering the gates guarded carefully. Because the city is large but its people few, he sets about registering the community, and he finds the genealogical record of those who first returned under Zerubbabel, reproduced here to establish the people’s identity and secure the resettlement.
