Judas, filled with remorse, hangs himself. Jesus is handed over to Pilate, who, though finding no guilt, yields to the crowd’s cry to crucify Him and releases Barabbas. Jesus is mocked, scourged, and crucified between two robbers under the charge “King of the Jews.” Darkness covers the land; He cries out and yields up His spirit; the temple curtain is torn in two and the earth shakes, and a centurion confesses, “Truly this was the Son of God.” He is buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb, which is sealed and guarded.
