Jesus feeds four thousand, then warns His disciples against “the leaven of the Pharisees.” After healing a blind man in stages at Bethsaida, He asks His disciples at Caesarea Philippi who they say He is, and Peter confesses, “You are the Christ.” This is the Gospel’s hinge. Immediately Jesus begins to teach that the Son of Man must suffer, be killed, and rise again; when Peter rebukes Him, Jesus rebukes Peter, and calls the crowd to “deny himself and take up his cross and follow me,” for whoever loses his life for His sake will save it.
