Journeying toward Jerusalem, Jesus upholds the permanence of marriage, welcomes little children as models of the kingdom, and calls a rich man to sell all and follow Him, warning how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom. He foretells His death a third time in vivid detail. When James and John ask for the chief seats, He teaches that greatness is service, and states His mission: “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” He heals blind Bartimaeus, who follows Him on the way.
