Job directly refutes the friends’ central claim by pointing to plain experience: the wicked often live long, grow powerful, see their children established, spend their days in prosperity, and die peacefully. He asks why, if their formula were true, this is so, exposing that God’s justice is not always visible in this life and cannot be reduced to a tidy equation of sin and suffering.
