Zophar, agitated, insists that the joy of the wicked is brief and their prosperity a mere moment; they swallow riches and vomit them up, and God’s wrath rains upon them. His theology of swift retribution is eloquent but false as applied to Job, for the real world does not run on so simple a schedule.
