Job study chapter

Job 2

patriarchal eraJob is struck with painful sores; his wife says “curse God and die,” but he holds fast, and his three friends come.

Satan again appears and claims Job will curse God if his own body is struck, so God permits Satan to afflict Job, sparing only his life. Covered with painful sores from head to foot, Job sits in ashes scraping himself with a potsherd, and his wife urges him to “curse God and die.” He refuses — “Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” — and does not sin. His three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, come to comfort him and sit with him in silence seven days, so great is his suffering.
