Job 1

Job, a blameless and God-fearing man of Uz, is the greatest of all the people of the east, blessed with ten children and vast wealth, and so careful of holiness that he offers sacrifices in case his children have sinned. In a scene hidden from Job, Satan appears before God and charges that Job fears God only because he is protected and prospered. God permits Satan to touch all Job has, and in one day raiders and disasters destroy his livestock, servants, and all ten children. Job tears his robe, falls down, and worships: “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”
