Jeremiah 7

c. 609 BCThe temple sermon: trust in the temple is vain without repentance and justice.

In the famous “temple sermon,” Jeremiah stands at the gate and warns the people not to trust the deceptive slogan, “This is the temple of the LORD,” as if the building could save them while they steal, murder, commit adultery, and burn incense to Baal. God will do to this house as He did to Shiloh, for He desires obedience, not empty sacrifice.
