Jeremiah 41

Ishmael treacherously murders Gedaliah and many others, including pilgrims, and takes captives, intending to flee to Ammon. Johanan and other leaders pursue and rescue the captives, but Ishmael escapes; fearing Babylonian reprisal for Gedaliah’s death, the frightened remnant prepares to flee toward Egypt.
