Jeremiah 35

c. 599 BCThe faithful Rechabites held up as an example against Judah’s disobedience.

As an object lesson, Jeremiah offers wine to the Rechabites, who refuse because their ancestor commanded them not to drink it. Their faithful obedience to a mere human forefather shames Judah’s disobedience to God, and the LORD promises the Rechabites an enduring line while judging His people for not listening.
