While Jerusalem is under siege and Jeremiah is imprisoned, God commands him to buy a field in his hometown from his cousin, a strange act of faith that fields will again be bought and sold in the land. Jeremiah’s prayer and God’s answer affirm both the certainty of the coming judgment and the surer certainty of restoration, for “nothing is too hard” for the LORD.
