After the first deportation, God shows Jeremiah two baskets of figs at the temple: one very good, one rotten. The good figs are the exiles already carried to Babylon, whom God will watch over and bring back with a new heart to know Him; the bad figs are Zedekiah and those who remain, whom He will make a horror and destroy.
