Isaiah 53

The Bible’s clearest portrait of the cross: the Servant is despised and rejected, “a man of sorrows,” who was “wounded for our transgressions... crushed for our iniquities,” and by whose stripes we are healed. Though innocent and silent before His accusers, “like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,” He bore the sin of many as a guilt offering, was buried with the rich, and — because the LORD laid on Him the iniquity of us all — will see the fruit of His anguish, justify many, and be given a portion with the great.
