The LORD challenges the nations and their idols to a courtroom contest, having stirred up a conqueror from the east, while assuring His servant Israel, “fear not, for I am with you... I will strengthen you, I will help you.” He promises to answer the thirsty and to make rivers flow in the desert, and He exposes the idols as “less than nothing,” unable to declare the future or do good or ill.
