Woe to the proud, drunken leaders of Ephraim, whose crown of pride will fade, and to the scoffing rulers of Jerusalem who have made “a covenant with death” by trusting lies. Against their folly the LORD lays in Zion “a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation” for the one who believes, and teaches that His discipline, like a farmer’s varied methods, is wise and measured.
