Esther 10

The brief closing chapter notes the greatness of King Ahasuerus and, above all, the exaltation of Mordecai, who becomes second in rank to the king, “great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.” The obscure man of the gate is lifted to power for the good of many, a fitting end to a book about the God who quietly raises up deliverance.
