Amos 4

The prophet rebukes the pampered “cows of Bashan,” the wealthy women of Samaria who oppress the poor to fund their indulgence. He then recounts a series of chastisements God had sent — famine, drought, blight, plague, and defeat — each followed by the mournful refrain, “yet you did not return to me.” Because Israel would not repent, the chapter ends with the ominous summons: “Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”
