1. The Holy Spirit Empowers the Church

The promised Spirit comes at Pentecost and drives the whole book, filling, guiding, and emboldening the church for witness. Acts is often called “the Acts of the Holy Spirit,” for the mission is His work through God’s people.

2. The Unstoppable Advance of the Gospel

From Jerusalem to Rome, the word of God “increased and multiplied” despite every opposition. God sovereignly overrules persecution, imprisonment, and hardship to spread the message He has ordained to reach the world.

3. Witness to the Risen Christ

The apostles are, above all, “witnesses” to Jesus’ resurrection. The sermons of Acts proclaim the crucified and risen Lord, calling all people to repentance and faith in His name.

4. The Gospel for All Peoples

Acts records the momentous opening of salvation to the Gentiles — through Cornelius, Antioch, and Paul’s mission — and the Jerusalem Council’s confirmation that Gentiles are saved by grace, without the law. The one gospel unites Jew and Gentile in Christ.

5. Salvation in the Name of Jesus Alone

Again and again Acts insists that there is salvation in no one else; forgiveness and life come only through faith in Jesus. Repentance, faith, and baptism mark those who receive the word.

6. The Sovereignty of God over the Mission

Behind every scene stands the sovereign purpose of God, directing the mission by His Spirit, His providence, and His word, so that His plan to gather a people from all nations cannot be thwarted.
