When some insist that Gentile believers must be circumcised and keep the law of Moses to be saved, the church convenes the Jerusalem Council. Peter testifies that God gave the Gentiles the Spirit and cleansed their hearts by faith, and that Jews and Gentiles alike are saved “through the grace of the Lord Jesus.” James proposes, and the council agrees, that Gentiles are not to be burdened with the law, only asked to abstain from a few things for the sake of fellowship. The decision is sent out, bringing great encouragement.
