With Abner dead, two of Ish-bosheth’s captains assassinate the weak king in his bed and bring his head to David, expecting a reward. David, who had punished the man who claimed to kill Saul, condemns them all the more for murdering an innocent man on his bed, and has them executed, burying Ish-bosheth’s head with honor.
