Josiah gathers the people, reads them the covenant, and pledges to keep it, then launches the most thorough reform in Judah’s history — destroying idols and high places, defiling Topheth where children were sacrificed, tearing down Jeroboam’s ancient altar at Bethel, and removing mediums and household gods. He keeps a Passover unequaled since the days of the judges. Yet the LORD’s anger over Manasseh’s sins is not turned away, and after Josiah is killed at Megiddo, Judah slides quickly toward ruin.
