In Israel, Jehoahaz and then Jehoash reign amid Aramean oppression, and God shows mercy for the sake of His covenant. The dying Elisha gives King Jehoash a sign of partial victory over Aram through arrows, rebuking his half-hearted faith. Even after Elisha’s death his power lingers: a corpse hastily thrown into his grave revives at the touch of his bones.
