Jehu ruthlessly exterminates the seventy sons of Ahab and all his officials, and then, by a cunning ruse, gathers and slaughters all the prophets and worshipers of Baal, wiping out Baal worship from Israel. Yet Jehu himself does not turn from the golden calves of Jeroboam at Bethel and Dan, and though God rewards his zeal with four generations on the throne, Israel’s decline continues.
