Hezekiah, in the very first month of his reign, reopens and repairs the temple his father had closed. He summons the priests and Levites to consecrate themselves and cleanse the house of the LORD, and after days of purifying they restore the sacrifices and the music of David. The service is reestablished suddenly and joyfully, “for the thing came about suddenly,” and the king and people rejoice at what God has done.
