Under Jehoiada’s guidance, Joash does what is right and repairs the neglected temple, the people gladly giving. But after Jehoiada dies, Joash listens to the princes, abandons the temple for idols, and when Jehoiada’s son Zechariah rebukes him, has him stoned in the temple court. Judgment follows swiftly: a small Aramean force defeats Judah, and Joash is assassinated by his own servants.
