After six years, Jehoiada the priest organizes a bold, carefully guarded coup, bringing out the boy Joash, crowning him, and proclaiming, “Long live the king!” Athaliah is seized and executed outside the temple. Jehoiada renews the covenant that the people and king would be the LORD’s, tears down the temple of Baal, and restores the ordered worship of the LORD with joy.
